This piece is an interpretation of my younger sisters bedroom as she enters her teenage years whilst battling mental illness. I took great inspiration from Tracy Emin's "My Unmade Bed" and combined it with my art style. The piece is covered in items that have significance to my sisters struggle with depression; one example being the broken mirror to symbolize insecurity and body image, as well as the calendar showing the days of January crossed off as this is the month with the highest suicide rate. Overall, this piece is very personal as it is my attempt at capturing my sisters mental state whilst incorporating my own experience with mental illness.
