We used imagery of holy water stoups from photographs taken in churches in Italy and Spain. Some were in use and some were very old ones in museums. We looked at the icons and patterns used and the sgraffito techniques used to add patterns and detail. We drew in our sketchbooks and made large paintings, then made our own design from earthenware clay. The pots we made using jelly moulds. Coloured slips were added and although we fired them a little high we like the dark effect.
