Man in a Drawer

Shumi, Age 11

  • Acrylic paint on paper, wooden drawer
  • A3 portrait

We are all citizens of the world, and this is what we learn at school. I loved learning about different portrait artists, and I thought that Lubaina Himid was very important because she is a black woman artist, and she shows lots of different people in her paintings. I was really inspired by her. I thought carefully about colour and composition, and I decided to make my background red so that the man stands out. I put him right in the corner, so he looks like he is looking inwards.
