Generations
Ava, Age 17
In art I rarely see myself reflected back at me.
This image shows my family of black women from 3 different generations in our home being ourselves without the outside world’s judgement of who we are, and all the things we want to do.
One artist that I have looked at is Carrie Mae Weems, she is the first artist I ever studied where I could see myself reflected in her art. She humanised black women in her photos and highlighted that we have families, feelings and are individuals not statistics
