The Old Tree

There are many beautiful natural features near where I live, but 'The Old Tree' is particularly special as it is in my garden and I can go and see it whenever I want. I wanted to create this artwork because I love the light and shadow of the moss and branches, especially the vibrant greens; and the texture of the leaf-littered ground and bark, which adds depth to the scene. When I drew the background, I aimed to create a sense of mystery by adding shadows and blurring detail. I chose to use coloured pencils as my medium because I can quickly take them outside to capture nature as it appears in front of me. I am pleased with how my work turned out because it conveys how I felt about The Old Tree when I first saw it.
