This etching was inspired by folklore and the character I created called Sirren is the spirit of winter. He speaks to the owls who perch on his shoulders and holds a bag of seeds for the following spring (or magic, who knows?). I love the idea that’s there’s more in the world than just what we see. That there are spirits and beings that look after the landscape and tend to us and nature. They carry the beauty of the world. This particular spirit wanders the landscape in midwinter and his fragile and bare body is similar to the cold and leafless trees. Maybe if we see nature as one living and breathing body we can treat it with the respect it deserves.
