The idea of the painting just popped into my head and I decided that to understand the emotion behind the figure I should paint it. It inspired me to be a bit happier about life and to be more optimistic because I didn't want to end up like the figure in the painting; to be a lost soul being guided out of the bleak present to the brighter future.
