While making this portrait I wanted to improve my cutting techniques, varying thick or thin lines to show highlights and shadows, as well as becoming comfortable with leaving some areas solid to allow the colour to be more prominent. I used different types of mark-making to separate the foreground and background of the piece, allowing the intricate cutting to be more visible and clear. I wanted to represent how I've used music during the lockdowns and studying to remove and forget about the stress and worries that came with it.
