On a tranquil, balmy afternoon in late August, my family and I stumbled upon this dignified pony, alone in a verdant woodland glade. We spent the afternoon sketching her and named her “Bessie”. I was intrigued by the mix of varying textures - branching fern fronds, bushy oaks, and crisp, silvery birch leaves - with Bessie's swarthy sinews shimmering in the sunlight against a backdrop of multiple shades of green. I recreated the moment in oils to keep alive the memory of our favourite countryside spot.
