Mackerel
Amelia, Year 10
We painted the fish from life. They were far more vibrant than I had anticipated. Once I got over having to spend time painting a dead fish and overcame the smell. The scales were iridescent and vibrant and the colour defined the form. We painted the fish with acrylic paint leaving areas of paper to come through. We applied Indian Ink to the surface of the dried acrylic paint. We left the ink to partial dry so it is tacky and then washed the surface. Some ink remained on the painting, slightly dulling the colour and giving a slightly worn effect
