The character of Nathan Lua is product of catharsis, originally created through the lyrics of a song that I wrote: ‘He picked some roses on his way back home to mama and he pricked his finger on a thorn. The blood trickled down his arm and he called it karma, because he couldn’t find her favourite ones.’ His missing arm is both a literal and figurative depiction of self destruction.
