The title for this piece is the Jamaican National motto. In this context it means out of Jamaica but still with a relationship to the mother land. It is an exploration of the relationship between first and second generations of the Windrush. The bird represents the freedom my mother has because of the sacrifices my nanny made in travelling to Great Britain to serve the country and build a life for her family, despite the racism she faced.
