I really enjoyed looking at Cezanne’s work and tried to make a similar composition to some of his still life paintings by using fruit, a jug and a table cloth. I used a spotlight to shine onto the scene to help me get a sense of light and dark in the picture. I found the table cloth difficult to paint at first but now I like the way the ribbons of colour help to give perspective. I tried hard to blend the paint and I was pleased with the intensity of the colours in the foreground compared to the drab blue-grey of the wall behind. I painted this during the second week of Covid-19 lockdown and that is why the fruit is beginning to look a old!
