Through the Mist
Nel, Year 9
'Through the mist' is part of a series of works on how painting and mark-making can be used to express emotion and evoke feeling about the landscapes that inspire me. I love travelling through dramatic scenery of hills and coasts, and find them very healing places. Using an Expressionist abstract style, I wanted to explore how colour, shape and light can be used to transcend thought and delve into the subconscious. The white waterfall-like stripe in this piece seemed to appear every time I worked in this way, and 'Through the Mist' felt like a clearing of my own thoughts and fears, as well as in the landscape of the painting itself.
