This painting is my interpretation of Käthe Kollwitz's famous print, The Widow I. I wanted to translate this into a different visual language while maintaining the solemn atmosphere and central theme of her artwork: suffering. My painting is a tribute to this incredible woman whose art sought to combat the devastation of war with a message of pacifism and acted as a place of comfort for those who were struggling like her.
