Inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the children made boats out of salvaged segments of abandoned boats that bring people across the Straits of Gibraltar to the Spanish mainland, naming them with the declaration titles such as 'Justice' and discussing the meaning of each word. They enjoyed talking about their own migration and hopes for the future. After using various media including collage to make migrating birds, we brought it all together into a book, 'A Boat called Hope'. Collaborating gave us all the chance to be fair, to feel that justice and freedom are important to us all. It has been a wholeheartedly positive project.
