This piece was an exploration of light and dark. This time of day really emphasised the contrasting colours that can be seen here, and that is why I chose to paint it. Colour has always been a part of my journey as an artist. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t go bold and bright, so when I saw this scene, I thought it matched my personality perfectly. The real challenge was trying to make the car lights pop and dazzle, but with layers of yellow red and white, I think I managed it quite well. The reason this piece is on cardboard is due to the amount of deliveries my family had during lockdown. I thought it was an absolute waste to just discard the packaging, so I used the boxes and made them into canvases.
