The painting alludes to a conference of sorts, contained figures surrounding an empty table. However, the resemblances and symmetries of the figures indicate family, creating a contrast of the formal and informal. In effect, the piece addresses the conflicted relationships within a family, and how individuals can offset the harmony of a group as a whole. In style, the painting reflects on F.N. Souza's formalisation of the human figure - a change that nowadays occurs even in the family setting.
