We used our photographs of holy water stoups taken in Italian and Spanish churches on holiday. We liked learning the word ‘stoup’. Some basins were in use and some were very old ones in the museums. We drew in our sketchbooks, made a collage from different photographs and then made our large painting on black card. We looked at the icons and patterns used in the sgraffito techniques and scratched in our patterns with the end of a brush into the wet paint. Patterned fabric with spots, bunting and holiday ice-cream-colours inspired our colour palette and background design. The are so bright and the spots look like lights. We made clay versions too.
