My deep rooted fascination with the surrealist movement has led me to create personal works which are full of irony, humour and subtle messages.

This self portrait is executed in fine detail, and my aim was to produce a piece of great power and in an unconventional manner, much like the leading figures of the surrealist movement. The main self portrait in this image unusually focuses on the back profile, with the portrait in the process of being executed. To add an unexpected and unusual angle, the subject being painted appears to be reaching out to paint the artist.

There is a superficial sense of humour to this piece, but there is deeper questioning of 'what is real?'.
